Tom O’BrienThe developer, who once worked inside the city of Boston under Mayor Thomas Menino, is now we weighing a campaign for high work.
Sources known to O’Brien’s opinion confirmed that he is considering a campaign against President Michelle Wu, who is running for a second four -year term. Boston Globe Reported for the first time on O’Brien’s possible offer this morning.
If O’Brien enters the race, he would join a field currently involving Josh Kraft, the son of New England Patriot owner Robert Kraft. Josh Kraft, who lived in Newton and Brookline, moved to Boston at the end of 2023 and launched a leading offer to the public office last month.
Kraft has attracted nearly $ 400,000 for his effort, with money coming from family members and senior business leaders such as Herb Chambers, car trade magnets and Jim Davis, Shoemaker New Balance Chair.
But his campaign has struck the riots in recent days, first with an invitation to collect funds sent by two supporters and displaying a horizon of New York City, as well as the city’s seal, which is not allowed in political material. A television interview on Channel 5 that aired on Sunday showed KRAFT by stumbling on some of his responses, and then fostered back-and-section calls from Wu opponents for O’Brien to consider walks, according to the political interiors looking at the race.

“It is clear that some developers are willing to do whatever it takes to buy this office,” a Wu campaign spokesman said in a statement on Monday afternoon. “It looks like Josh Kraft is not turning out to be what they were waiting for and now they are making purchases for a new opportunity.”
During her time in office, WU has clashed with some executives in the Boston real estate sector, who have blocked in its push for more environmental regulations, bike lanes, and a proposal that shifts more from the tax burden to real estate owners to avoid increased tax bills this year. The proposal died in the State Senate as the interests of real estate lobbied against it.
O’Brien has worked for the last 16 years at Hym Investment Group, where he is CEO and a founding partner. The company has helped develop several massive real estate projects, including New Balance Boston Landing in Brighton and Sufolk Downs at the East Boston-Revere border.
From 1993 to 1999, he worked at the Boston Reconstruction Authority under President Menino as Director and Head of Staff. “Around that time, rumors began to shake that Menino felt threatened by O’Brien, who was talented, directed and perhaps the worst of all, well -liked, and in 1999 O’Brien collapsed from the bra,” according to a 2020 profile in the Alumni magazine of Suffolk University, where O’Brien took a staircase.
O’Brien, who lives in a step of luxury housing buildings by the municipality and beyond a Congress tower, his company was involved in construction, did not respond to comment requests.
While Wu’s allies cheered her testimony in Washington, they and her campaign increased her re -election efforts over the weekend. Five unions – representing health care workers, higher education workers and assets service workers – became the latest working groups that approved Wu on Saturday. Union approval is coveted for money and people in the field they offer.
At a special event on Sunday, rep. Michael Moran state, the second high -ranking Democrat at Massachusetts’ house after President Ron Mariano jumped into Kraft, caustatically mocking him recently leaving Moran a voice mail presenting himself.
Moran, a house lawmaker for the last 20 years, told Wu supporters that he found KRAFT wanting to be mayor after being transferred to the city in 2023, “offensive”, “arrogant” and “crazy”.
“I want to say, I would never think in my wildest dreams to do something like that,” Moran said in an audio recording taken from Shared. “That I think so much about myself that I will make my dad buy me a condo at the end of the north and I will run for mayor. Who does it? No one does it. If you certainly have a father who is Robert Kraft.”
When asked about his latest movement in Boston, Kraft observed that he has worked in communities like Dorchester and Mattapan for 35 years.
“Mike Moran is a tireless leader in the two neighborhoods he serves and throughout the city, and a dedicated public servant,” Kraft said in a statement. “I would be honored to work with him if I was elected chairman in November.”
The statement did not address O’Brien’s possible candidacy and the campaign refused to comment.
The mayor’s race can be withdrawn to other candidates as well. North Ende End Jorge Mendoza Indaralde has previously said that he is interested in a mayor’s candidate, and many years of public office candidate Althea Garrison is weighing a run.
